OH YOU WHO LAMENT

Oh you who lament
Of dearth of money
when a loaf of #50 lies solely
In the vacuum of your pocket
Let your mind be soused with the fact
That some have not a dime
In the pockets of their tattered cloths

Oh you who lament
That your dwelling place
Is not spacious
And lacks luxurious house appliances
Burry in your heart!
The fact that some live on the streets;
Slumbering on the gutter-sides
The sun caresses them with her heat
The coldness of the night
Wraps dutifully around them
And flies wage war on them

Oh you who lament
That God has done not a favour for you
Do not forget the fact
That some are lying hopelessly
Upon the beds of hospitals;
Living-dead with shaking souls
Some do not have access to hope
For the dead have none
But the living, live with hope

Oh you who lament
That some are wealthy and famous;
Knowledgeable than you are
Find a place in your heart
And lace it with the fact
That some are below you
Who lack these things
More than you do

Oh you who lament
Dip your eyes in the river of reality
And the truth shall manifest.
And thy lament shall turn to praise
When you now realise
How God's mercy flows unceasingly in you

Poet’s note
If we are all happy, how do we know that sadness exists? And how are we going to appreciate our happiness? It is in this regard, that there is happiness and sadness, failure and success, ups and down.
Therefore, man should be mindful of whatever circumstance he meets himself, be it favourable or unfavourable .  He should have the notion that no matter what obsesses him, financially, psychologically e.t.c also obsesses others deeply than that of his.
A perfect example of this phenomenon is demonstrated below.

1. Richman A has 15 cars and 50 houses yet complains of the need for a private jet.
2. Rich man B has 5 cars and a big mansion, yet desires for more cars and houses.
3. Average man C has a car and a manageable house. Yet, he desires for more cars and houses.
4. Average man D rents a house and doesn’t have a car, he earns manageable salary. He wants a house of his own
5. Poor man E has no job, he labours around and gets wages, he doesn’t have a house or car, but he is able to pay his rent with his savings. All He wants is a good job with impressive salary.
6. Poor man F has no job, house, car, and no place to live; He wanders aimlessly and sleeps at the gutter-sides in the dark hours of the night. He wants to be like Poor Man-E.
7. DIEING MAN G has everything, cars, jets, houses, wealth e.t.c., but they are of no use to him, for he has been sleeping in the bed of a hospital for years, experiencing the death scenes of others. He wants to become Poor Man-G just to be healthy and alive.
Now compare them together.

I believe, with this sample, the poem or poet’s main message is identifiable and clear to the readers. Thanks for reading.
