I LISTEN TO THE WORDS- BY YAHAYA HABEEB KAYODE JAYPEE D-POET

I listen to the words
Whispered by the whirling winds
Their only wish,
Is for peace to reign in our country

I listen to the words
Muttered by the dangling leaves
As the morning breeze
Forced them into a gleeful dance
Their only wish,
Is for justice to reign
In our dear country

I listen to the words
Echoing from the birds’ chirrup
As they flutter their wings
In the vast acres of the sky
Their only wish,
Is for love to reign
In our beloved country

I listen to the chirpings of the busy insects
As they prowl up and down
In their cities and towns
Their only wish,
Is for unity to reign
In all nooks and crannies of the world

I listen to the soundless words
Spurting from the silence of our souls
We nurse a throbbing desire
For peace, justice and unity
Alas! From the vacuum of our heart,
We have always detested
The echoes of war, bloodshed, injustice

I’ve been able to listen to these words
With my heart not my ears.

Happy independent day #
