In the beginning they said there was love
They said there was almost perfection
Unity use to repose in our slums
Peace use to be in our detention
Corruption and his dreadful families
Were nowhere to be found
There existed a fascinating relationship
Between brothers and sisters
Fathers and mothers
Even followers and leaders
Tranquility use to shower upon us
Like raindrops falling on a window pane
And there was no anguish; No pain
There was nothing as xenophobia
Nothing called Ebola or malaria
In those days I didn’t say there was perfection
But things were manageable
Things were considerate
People were not irrational
Families were not soaked with sorrow
Doom doesn’t loom as frequent

Darkened the face of the moon
Yes! Now!
Now! When soulless bodies are as uncountable
Like sands in the Sahara desert
Strange and absurd things unfold everyday
Good things are now seen as bad
And the bad as good
In those days
Technologies were used for reasonable purposes
To bring diversified people together
To bridge the gap between the blacks and the whites
The Indians and the Canadians
And to integrate the people in Spain with Ukraine
Nigerians with Somalians
Arabians and Caucasians
Because GOD LOVES DIVERSITY
AND HATES MONOTONY
But now!
Technology is use to cause doom
And makes bombs to boom
It is use to force tears out of the dry river in our eyes
It is use to wet the roadside
With gallons of blood from innocent souls
What a strange world!
Our happiness is fading away
Like the rays of the evening sun
Madam JOY that use to be our wife
Has divorced and deserted us
And now we are lonesome
Threatened severally and severely by the soldiers of sorrow
The world that use to be fun, exciting, positively memorable
Is now a strange world
full of atrocities, enmities and insincerity.
The air, water and land have been polluted
Economy has collapsed
The standard of living is irresistibly high
Education has been badly battered
Ambitions have been shattered
People now go to school to get certificate
And not to learn
Unemployment has gained the ground
Large percent of internet videos
And music on radios
Are all about sex and lust
They chase the youths from that good lane
And make them go insane
They drive them from their laudable ambitions
To those sadistic missions
They drive them from love into lust
And they finally get lost
What a strange world?
Yes! A strange world
Where knowledge is now shunned
And ignorance is applauded
Wisdom is not valued
And foolishness is rewarded
Our leaders now feed us with lies
The public they are meant to serve
But for themselves our money they preserve
The media have stopped being the harbinger of truth
But now they are the town criers of falsity
They have ceased to preach humility
They don’t have integrity
They’ve shattered our unity
And neglected their major responsibility
Of being the voice of the truth
Or the voice of the oppressed
But now!
They are the voice of misconceptions
Feeding us with deceptions
Hampering our strong ambition
to become ONE
the world is lacking integration
and racism is a king reclining on the throne
religions are defamed by bigots
who in the name of religion cause disasters
to the face of the earth
I say!
